NUST member Gary Kelly has just finished cycling over 3,000 miles, through 10 European countries to raise money for charity in memory of his close friend Gav Blakemore who took his own life.
Gary from Whickham, will be attending the Newcastle home game against Stoke on Sunday as part of NUST 's Local Achievers program.
After his friend Gav's suicide, Gary realised that there were no support networks around Tyneside to help friends and family left behind. So Gary decided to raise enough money to setup a local branch of the national charity Survivors of Bereavement by Suicide, by cycling from St. James’ Park to St. James Way, Santander in Spain via a strenuous journey that included the Alps and the Pyrenees. The trip took just under 2 months to complete.
Gary's target was £500 and so far he has raised more than double that and NUST extend their congratulations on his achievement.
