WestgateJunBadgeThe Trust is committed to working alongside and helping wherever possible all sections of the local fanbase and so NUST are pleased to be backing the Westgate Juniors Football Club. It is a relatively new football club which is now in its fourth year.

The club was set up by chair Keith Morrice to encourage youths and children from the west end of Newcastle into mainstream football. The west end of Newcastle has had many difficulties over the years and is still an area of deprivation where many youngsters face social exclusion.

NUST are awarding their Local Achievers match tickets for the Barnsley game to the following Westgate Juniors Coaches who are all volunteers :

Jamie Parsons - age 21 - he has been a coach from the onset of the club being created and has volunteered on weekly basis and now manages the under 12's

Becky Hendry - age 17 - she has volunteered for up to a year and works with the girls football development and will be running the first under 11 team which will play their first professional game on 28th Feb at a festival in Hexham

They were nominated by Lorraine Rochester who said "Daniel and Rhys have been giving up their time every Sunday for the last 4 months from 12-4 in the bike workshop. They work with young people aged 11-15 helping and teaching them how to take apart their bikes and put them back together. I believe if the people they are teaching were not involved in the project they would be hanging around the streets. Rhys and Daniel are just two of the many volunteer/ mentors we have but as they give up 4 hours of their time every Sunday I think they deserve a little reward for their hard work and commitment."

Daniel and Rhys will be attending the Newcastle United vs Derby game courtesy of NUST.

Local Achievers - Cameron

cameron2On Saturday, Cameron Angus and family were at St.James' Park as guests of NUST. They were our latest 'Local Achievers' having been nominated by Liz Luff of the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation. The family have been great supporters of the Foundation as well as Cameron benefitting from it thanks to the funding of a new children's waiting area at the Freeman hospital where he received regular treatment for a brain tumour.

Cameron's dad James was in touch after Saturday's match to say, "We cannot thank you enough for the tickets for such a great game, despite feeling as though we were playing against 12 men for most of the match we wthought the commitment of both players and fans was tremendous. Cameron and his sister Olivia made Jonas their man of the match as he typified the commitment with his workrate. We'd like to wish the Trust the best of luck with the 'Yes We Can' campaign which our family are right behind and think it could eventually give us a club we can all be proud of".

Sir Bobby Robson Foundation Achievers

NUST has worked closely with the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation and so for Saturday's local achievers we contacted Liz Luff to ask for a nomination. For anybody who isn't aware, Liz has worked tirelessly on behalf of the Foundation and has been a major factor in it's success.

Liz nominated Cameron Angus and family, they will receive tickets for the Watford match courtesy of the Trust. Cameron has a brain tumour which requires regular treatment at the Freeman Hospital, where he's had both radiotherapy and chemo. Treatment means sometimes he has to visit the hospital every day for weeks on end. Recently the experience became easier after the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation funded a new children's waiting area.

Sophie Achievers Rewarded

Sopie_achieversAs part of our Local Achievers Initiative NUST rewarded 4 of the Key Fundraisers from the Sophie Atay appeal with tickets to the Newcastle United vs Peterborough match. Takan Atay, David Holland and  Peter Holland are pictured here with the NUST's Peter Whitfield.

Pioneering treatment costing £500,000 was needed to give the cancer-stricken youngster hope of fighting-off an aggressive form of cancer, known as stage four neuroblastoma. After her appeal went global, her family received £450,000 in just three days from more than 23,000 generous people who flocked to her online fundraising site. Sophie has reached her cash target and will fly to New York for the treatment.

It was with great pleasure that we were able to give tickets to a group of individuals who have done their part to raise such a fantastic sum. Our organisation have been proud to have been able to help out with the appeal and to see the generosity of those at our roadshows donating cash, prizes and personal items to help little Sophie.

Well done to all the fundraisers concerned and the best wishes of the NUST go out to Sophie and her family as she starts the next stage of her treatment.
