The Trust is committed to working alongside and helping wherever possible all sections of the local fanbase and so NUST are pleased to be backing the Westgate Juniors Football Club. It is a relatively new football club which is now in its fourth year.

The club was set up by chair Keith Morrice to encourage youths and children from the west end of Newcastle into mainstream football. The west end of Newcastle has had many difficulties over the years and is still an area of deprivation where many youngsters face social exclusion.

NUST are awarding their Local Achievers match tickets for the Barnsley game to the following Westgate Juniors Coaches who are all volunteers :

Jamie Parsons - age 21 - he has been a coach from the onset of the club being created and has volunteered on weekly basis and now manages the under 12's

Becky Hendry - age 17 - she has volunteered for up to a year and works with the girls football development and will be running the first under 11 team which will play their first professional game on 28th Feb at a festival in Hexham

Sean Hopkinson - age 18 - volunteers with U7 & U6 football as a coach

Jordan Johnston - age 18 - volunteer coach at Westgate Juniors.

Lorraine said "We all had a fab time at the match despite the score and the freezing weather. The seats were fantastic. We had an amazing view - just a shame there were not a couple of goals to round off the night but we stil enjoyed it all the same.

All 4 volunteer their time to help out with the Positive Futures scheme based at Wallsend Boys Club.

Positive Futures is a brilliant scheme which runs in conjunction with Sub 21and takes a developmental approach to helping young people fromdeprived communities steer clear of crime, drug and alcohol misuse and move forward in their lives. It is aimed at young people aged 10 to 19 and works with local shops in the community and the local police to and offers a variety of activities like cooking, bike workshops, football and skate workshops as well as dance and nail art. Positive Futures are based in Wallsend Boys Club and are open 7 days a week.

Our latest local achievers are Daniel Wharrier and Rhys Sansom who volunteer for the Positive Futures scheme.

They were nominated by Lorraine Rochester who said "Daniel and Rhys have been giving up their time every Sunday for the last 4 months from 12-4 in the bike workshop. They work with young people aged 11-15 helping and teaching them how to take apart their bikes and put them back together. I believe if the people they are teaching were not involved in the project they would be hanging around the streets. Rhys and Daniel are just two of the many volunteer/ mentors we have but as they give up 4 hours of their time every Sunday I think they deserve a little reward for their hard work and commitment."
