Brandon NUSC Roadshow - 2nd July 2009

brandon united badgeNUSC took it's Roadshow to Brandon United Football Club on the evening of Thursday 2nd July 2009. It was our first ever Roadshow in Durham and the first on the road since relegation. Any worries that relegation may have dampened the enthusiasim of Newcastle fans were quickly banished with a decent sized audience keen to hear about all things Newcastle United. It appeared that members of the audience had travelled far and wide to listen to NUSC representatives and life long fan and Chronicle reporter John Gibson.

Following the usual NUSC roadshow format the evening began with NUSC committee members Steve Hastie and Neil Mitchell updating the audience on recent NUSC activities including it's support for Newcastle's 2018 World Cup bid and recent cheque presentation to Sir Bobby Robson who thought Steve was his ex Ipswich player Eric Gates and showed that his wit has never left him...get along to an NUSC roadshow and see for yourselves!

MC Bill Corcoran then chatted with John Gibson whilst Gibbo enthralled the audience with numerous Newcastle United related stories, including trips to Rome with Gazza - whom John spoke very highly of - and talk ins with Sir Bobby Robson. Having followed Newcastle United since he was a boy growing up in the West End of Newcastle and then having reported on them since the 60's Gibbo has a wealth of Newcastle United related tales which the crowd lapped up.

Following a break to allow the audience to complete a picture quiz of football grounds which sparked much debate and trading of answers, the second half of the roadshow commenced with NUSC committee member Colin Whittle speaking to the audience regarding NUSCs recent conversion to Trust status, outlining exactly how that came about and what it involved, how it worked in other countries and that the Trust hoped to achieve.

Gibbo then returned to the stage for a Q and A session, responding to questions on a variety of subjects from the state of the club, his thoughts on relegation and relating more NUFC stories to the audience who remained rooted to their seats. By this time the audience had grown with local football players having popped in for a pint after training and being 'spellbound' by Gibbos experiences.

As at all NUSC roadshows because of the wide ranging discussions and topics covered the event had to be brought to an end to allow the bar staff to eventually shut up shop and go home. A good night had by all!!
