Club Not listening to fans- another PR own Goal - NUST Press Release

nust_logo_smallClub wants to relocate anti-Ashley 'singing section', as survey reveals over 75% want a stake in the football club and fans represented on the board.

New research into what Newcastle United fans think of their football club shows that a staggering 96% of supporters feel the current owners do not listen to their concerns and 78% believe they should be allowed to take a stake in the football club.

The survey of more than 4,700 fans by Newcastle United Supporters' Trust also reveals the majority do not believe the club is currently capable of establishing itself in the Top 5 of the Premier League, despite the organisation's success in controlling costs such by offloading high wage earners.

Nine out of ten Newcastle supporters (91%) are not happy with how their Club is being run off the pitch and almost all supporters responding to the survey (96%) do not think the current owners listen to the fans.

This is reinforced by the Club's recent decision to relocate fans from the singing corner. The action is seen by fans as another underhand move by the Club's owners, with supporters claiming that the only reason for their relocation is that this section tends to lead the anti-Ashley chants on match days.

"It is clear that the fans are not happy with how the current owners are running the Club " said Norman Watson, chairman of Newcastle United Supporters' Trust. "The fans are still reeling from the sacking of Chris Hughton, the last-minute sale of Andy Carroll and heading into the last stages of the season with limited first team strikers at the Club - and now what looks like a cynically motivated movement of fans. It is hardly surprising that only 9% of those responding to our survey want the current board to remain in charge and want to see fans take a stake in the Club."

On the issue of ownership, two-thirds of fans (66%) want a north easterner in charge of the Club, while 85% believe that fans should be represented at Board level in the football club, Norman Watson continued: "Newcastle fans are telling us that they want a say in how the Club is run and owned and despite their views on the current board, want the Trust to work with the current owners to achieve that aim. However, the Club continues to treat their supporters with disdain - the same fans who spurred their team on against Arsenal last weekend. If only the Club would talk to the Trust and harness the passion of the fans, perhaps they would stop scoring as many PR own goals."
