Our latest Roadshow took place at the coast on the evening of Thursday 3rd September at the Cullercoats Crescent Club. A healthy contingent of Mags turned up to listen to latest developments at the Trust, to hear the tales of the Chronicles John Gibson and to generally discuss all things Newcastle United....and as always following the Mags always leaves plenty of room for discussion.
MC for the evening was NUSC Interim Chair Neil Mitchell who began by introducing committee member Steve Hastie who brought the audience up to date on the developments at the Supporters Club since it's formation almost a year ago.
Of particular interest to the audience were recent discussions with 'Fanbase 410' who have expressed an interest in purchasing the club and support the concept of 'supporter representation' at board level. Steve explained that discussions were ongoing with the organisation but until a long term business plan was in place which could be analysed and approved by the Trust's financial representatives then the Trust were unable to offer it's support to the proposal. In the meantime Steve explained that members views were presently being obtained, a survey recently having been sent out.
As usual, the audience were particularly amused at Steve's story of his meeting with Sir Bobby a couple of months ago which resulted in the great man comparing him with Eric Gates -is he that ugly you are all thinking! Get a long to a Roadshow and see!
Following Steve was Paul Brown-King who informed the audience of the details behind the clubs conversion to Trust status, what it involved, how it came about and what it meant from a long term point of view. Mixed in there were Pauls amusing stories of away trips in the 70's and how, like us all, Newcastle United had become the focal point of his life. The audience clearly understood and bought into the Trust concept as a number of members of the audience raised interesting points about the workings of a Trust in relation to the club.
After a short break for a quiz, guest speaker John Gibson took to the floor and soon had the audience eating out of his hand with plenty of Newcastle United stories, managers ,players, incidents and events were all recalled with a considerable amount of humour. The audience clearly warmed to John's style and the talk moved into an interactive discussion with John much to the amusement of the audience.
A great night was rounded up by Neil outlining future events, beginning next Thursday 10th September 2009 with a trip to Bamburgh for the next Roadshow.
Thanks to the Cullercoats Crescent Club for hosting the event and to everyone in attendance.
