FSF condemns tabloid coverage of fan deathOn Tuesday 6th September Wales fan Mike Dye headed off to Wembley to attend a game of football. Mike never returned home following an incident which is currently the subject of a police manslaughter investigation. Along with Cardiff City and the club's fans we would like to put on the record our condemnation of the manner in which this story was reported by certain elements in the media. Supporters also raised more than £10,000 for Mike's funeral fund. |
Ticket trouble at the Bridge and Bramall Lane
On Tuesday Stamford Bridge saw its lowest gate since 2007 for a Champions League fixture as fans voted with their feet following a 33 per cent ticket rise. A 2-0 win over Bayer Leverkusen was watched by 33,820 with the away club subsidising their own fans' tickets after finding out how much the home side planned to charge. On the same night in Yorkshire 2-3,000 fewer fans than expected made the trip from Huddersfield to Sheffield after an unofficial boycott. |

POLL: Who'll go furthest in Europa League?A fortnight ago we asked FSF members who they thought would go furthest in the Europa League. Almost 750 of you voted with Stoke City the overwhelming favourites on 65%. Their creditable draw in Kiev last night will have done their cause no harm. Both Fulham (9%) and Spurs (22%) opened their Europa League groups with draws while Birmingham City (4%) suffered a 3-1 home defeat to Braga. |
Total Access - Total FootballDisabled fans from across Europe will meet at Wembley (24th-25th September) to discuss improving access to football stadiums for disabled people. Supporters’ groups will be joined by representatives from the likes of UEFA and EURO 2012. Various football associations, clubs, and leagues will also be in attendance. |
And finally... all the time in the worldQuite a number of And Finally... mistakes are made by players under pressure. A defender harried and hassled by an opposition striker hammering the ball into his own net being the classic example. However, on this occasion we see an absolute howler by a keeper under less pressure than a punctured tyre. |
