Blatter must goSepp-tic Blatter's latest missive that racism can be solved with a handshake is yet another reason for him to go (as if there weren't enough already). As a result a rather large queue made up of Kick It Out, PFA boss Gordon Taylor, and sports minister Hugh Robertson have called for the FIFA boss' head. Players past and present, David Beckham included, have also told Blatter to go. They're spot on - let's hope the rest of Planet Football listens. Belated apologies once he's realised the trouble he's in aren't enough. |
Hammers fans demand Olympic Stadium ballotA group of West Ham United fans have demanded the club’s hierarchy conduct a ballot of season ticket holders and members to determine whether the Hammers should move to the Olympic Stadium. WHU’s View is open to fans who back or oppose the move and its sole purpose is to secure the right for fans to vote on the move. The FSF backs their request and believes talk of “consultation” is meaningless if a club moves without holding a full and fair ballot of fans. |

Wembley architect: Safe standing is no problemOne of the world’s leading stadium architects has backed safe standing and stated it can be done “without any problems at all”. John Barrow is senior principal at renowned architects Populous and played a key role in designing Wembley Stadium. The firm also designed stadiums for Euro 2004 and the 2010 World Cup. He's the latest figure to back safe standing after Arsenal CEO Ivan Gazidis and Football Safety Officers’ Association president Jim Chalmers. |
Credit to clubs for South Yorkshire ticket treatWhen clubs get something wrong fans are happy to stick the boot in so it's only fair we credit them when they get something right. With that in mind then it's a big well done to Barnsley and Doncaster Rovers who have knocked up to £7 off their ticket prices in a reciprocal deal which will benefit both sets of fans at the upcoming South Yorkshire derby. Cheaper tickets, more bums on seats, better atmosphere, and some good PR for the clubs. Nice one. |
And finally... celebration failWe love it when a player’s celebration makes them look a bit of a daftie and, with that in mind, this week’s And Finally… takes a trip to Brazil. Wing-back Fabio Santos of Vitoria scores a pretty nifty header in his side’s 3-1 win over Criciuma and charges off to celebrate, hurdling the advertising hoardings, before coming to a hedge fit to grace the Grand National. Guess what happens next? |
