Safe standing on the up in Germany

Fans want safe standing areas introduced, it's as simple as that. Polls show nine out of 10 support safe standing areas and the evidence in Germany shows it can be done safely. So the authorities take a different tactic to try and stop it happening by claiming that German clubs are moving away from safe standing. Guess what? They're wrong on that too. Last year HSV, St. Pauli and Achen redeveloped to increase standing and this year it's the turn of Fortuna Düsseldorf. So fans in Germany get to stand and watch the match while having a beer? We'll have some of that please!

Register now for Fans' Parliament (Wembley, Saturday July 24th)

Fans’ Parliament is just around the corner and it’s all heating up. First up we've got guest speaker and acclaimed author Declan Hill whose book on match-fixing could forever change the way you view professional football. We’re also delighted to announce that Liberty director Shami Chakrabarti will lead our workshop on policing and stewarding, the issue which causes more complaints to the FSF than any other. Fans’ Parliament also sees reps from the Premier League, Football League, and FA meet up with fans to debate club debts and governance, lack of safe standing, and England’s 2018 World Cup bid.

Fans' Parliament is totally free and takes place at Wembley on Saturday July 24th - register today from this link.

Goal-line technology - yay or nay? Vote now

Apparently there was a recent incident where a linesman (yes, we still call them that) missed a shot crossing the line? Can’t say we recall it but everyone seems to have an opinion on goal-line technology nowadays, that’s for sure. Fifa president Sepp Blatter has also revealed that they’ll “re-open the file on goal-line technology” although he ruled out video replays for offsides and sending-offs. So do you think it’s about time football caught up with other sports and put an end to human error or will the flow of the beautiful game be spoiled by the introduction of new technology?

ADVERT: World-class security for smartphones for free

How many times have you heard that a mate’s lost his phone in the crowd or down the pub or in a taxi after the match? Now Kaspersky Lab, the Internet Security specialists, have come up with a way of locating, locking or even remotely wiping the data on your phone to protect your personal data. And as they expect more phones to be at risk during the World Cup, they’re even offering a free version of their program for the duration. All you have to do is check that you’ve got a compatible smartphone at Kapersky downloads and then download the appropriate version for your phone.  To activate the World Cup offer, enter the code BFK48-UJ3TR-AFKN3-RP5PU.

No quick fix for England malaise

If you buy the hype England have world-class players who just don’t gel as a team. So why do the Three Lions so persistently under-perform? Is it because Britain lags far behind in youth development and coaching? Does the Premier League undermine the national team? Are young players sacrificed at the alter of foreign players who are the “finished product”? The FSF’s chair Malcolm Clarke shares a few thoughts about what ails the game on our isle and argues that there are no quick fix solutions.

...and finally.

There’s been much to tickle our fancy at this World Cup from New York Post headlines to Lego football to the horror of the vuvuzela, it’s been a blast. Our favourite snippet yet comes courtesy of Five Live commentator David Pleat following Italy’s defeat to Slovakia. After summing up the Azzurri’s undoubted defensive shortcomings the ex-Luton and Spurs boss lined up his final blow and, in excellent Del Boy fashion, declared: “For sure Italy can say - au revoir!”
