The Football Supporters' Federation's weekly news round-up, Friday 13th January 2012

FSF-Logo-MEDIUMIf you’d travelled almost 200 miles (roundtrip) to watch your side on Boxing Day and the game was abandoned mid-match due to floodlight failure you’d expect to get your money back, right? Wrong. Find out why here thanks to some FSF research.

Clubs in crisis is big news in the NE with Darlo's demise and we (thanks to the excellent Football Management blog) investigate that here. We've also got results of the FSF's poll asking how far will England go at Euro 2012? The answer seems to be the traditional quarter-final stage, obviously. Lastly there's a big-time soccer fail from China. LOLZ (shudder). Watch it here.

The Football Supporters' Federation's weekly news round-up, Friday 6th January

FSF-Logo-MEDIUMFan Mail is back for 2012 and there's some good news to start the year. Fan-related arrests are down by 9% with only one in every 12,249 fans arrested - that's 0.01%. 70% of matches also passed without a single arrest - let's hope the media remember these stats next time they get into a feeding frenzy over hooliganism.

If it’s not one thing it’s another for Sepp Blatter and the latest bad news he received came from fans. Football Supporters Europe (who the FSF is affiliated to) has turned down a request from FIFA to sit on its Independent Governance Committee. FSE cited serious concerns around the nature of the IGC’s independence, transparency, and potential impact. Basically FIFA's Executive Committee wants control over the group supposedly investigating it. More here.

The Football Supporters' Federation's weekly news round-up, Friday 9th December

FSF-Logo-MEDIUMThis week the FSF spoke to ex-England international and Kick It Out ambassador Earl Barrett on the subjects of race, the Rooney Rule, and the accuracy of nicknames sourced via Wikipedia. Or lack of accuracy as the case may be. The FSF also asked how far can England go in Euro 2012 and previewed an exclusive(ish) Euro 2012 fixtures calendar which you can download for free and import into your computer calendar or smartphone. Get those days booked off work in advance! Lastly there’s a competition to win Footy Manager 2010/11 and a nice Socrates tribute vid.

The Football Supporters' Federation's weekly news round-up, Friday 2nd December

FSF-Logo-MEDIUMThe Euro 2012 draw is made and England will be in Group D with France, Sweden, and Ukraine. With dates and venues in place the FSF Free Lions team have been busy working on a brand new fans' guide to the host cities and Outlook/Google calendar download to plan all your football viewing. Marvellous.

As well as that there's news from Wolves where some fans are planning a silent protest in response to what they see as the Premier League's rapacious greed and obsession with money. There's also some stocking filler ideas in the form of frankly lovely images from Stuart Roy Clarke - see some NUFC examples here. Remember THAT Liam O'Brien/Roker Park pic? It was one of Stuart's. Lastly the FSF says RIP Gary Speed - a player greatly admired by fans across the UK.

The Football Supporters' Federation's weekly news round-up, Friday 25th November

FSF-Logo-MEDIUMAfter a leave of absence due to those dastardly IT gremlins the FSF's weekly news round-up is back and we've got a brief favour to ask of all FSF members and affiliated orgs (such as Newcastle United Supports' Trust). Could you pretty please with sugar on top complete a brief survey for the FSF on behalf of Kick It Out. Last week's Sepp Blatter comments showed there's no room for complacency in the fight against racism and, with that in mind, Kick It Out would like to know how their work is viewed. Let them know via thislink.

We also have the full results of an FSF poll on the Elite Player Performance Plan - are Football League clubs signing their own death warrant? - and news of a website called Get On With The Game. Launched by refs it helps teach kids the importance of rules, team work, and fair play – all good stuff. If you have any little ‘uns kicking about see below for kid friendly info, games, and quizzes. Lastly there's a video clip (Friday time waster ahoy) of a player scoring a mint goal, only for it to be disallowed. Wrongly. Ho ho ho.

The Football Supporters’ Federation’s weekly news round-up (14th October 2011)

FSF-Logo-MEDIUMWednesday saw Liverpool’s managing director Ian Ayre claim the club should throw away the “collective agreement” between all 20 Premier League clubs so they could gorge themselves on more TV money. Bill Shankly would be proud eh? On the same day the government also warned the football industry that they’d better start listening to football fans, or else. And that or else might even be Parliamentary legislation. Hear, hear.

The FSF is also interested to know what fans think of international fixtures. Mr Blatter (boo-hiss) wants more, the clubs want less, but what do fans think? Take two minutes of your time to let us know and help formulate FSF policy. There’s also news from Kick It Out and interesting events in Portsmouth and Newcastle in the coming week. If you live on the south coast or in the north east, do not miss out.
