What Newcastle and England Didn't expect

backthebidlogoWorld Cup 2018 bid bites the dust

As decision time approached it looked like things were heading Newcastle and England’s way, the bookies’ odds tumbling and an excellent presentation by England’s bid team in Zurich. The 3pm announcement time came and went, the delay then exasperated by the leaked news that not only had England/Newcastle failed but we had finished fourth in a four runner race. As one of the Newcastle bid’s many local partners, the Trust could see the massive potential benefits to our region, both economic and cultural. Tens of thousands visiting Tyneside for the first time and a chance for us all to show off our great city, as billions also looked in via TV.

That is now all gone and it is only left for us to congratulate Newcastle’s arm of the England bid for an excellent campaign, which the leader of Newcastle City Council, David Faulkner, eloquently and passionately summed up as the decision was awaited in Newcastle.

So near and yet so far, in Newcastle we do have some experience of that feeling.

Wallsend Boys' Club Granted £50,000

WBCA big thank you to all NUST members and visitors to this website who rang up to register their vote in support for Wallsend Boys’ Club’s bid to expand their street-based work with young people in North Tyneside. There’s a happy end to this story as Wallsend came out on top in the voting and now have £50k heading their way to help them in the great work they do.

(The following is reproduced from Wallsend Boys’ Club website – visit www.wallsendboysclub.co.uk to find out more)

"As you may be aware by now, we were successful in our bid to the People's Millions for £50,000 worth of funding. This will now enable us to purchase & convert a Camper Van, and employ a youth worker for a year, which will in turn allow us to expand on the street-based work we currently provide to the young people of North Tyneside.

On behalf of all the young people and the staff & volunteers at the Club, we would like to take this opportunity to thank everybody who voted for us and supported our bid.

Very special thanks go to our Members and their Parents & Guardians; our Ex-Players; North Tyneside Council; our local Schools; The Evening Chronicle & Journal; YMCA North Tyneside; Barnardos; Connexions; Newcastle United Supporters Trust; True Faith fanzine; Potts Printers; Tyne Metropolitan College; Tyne Tunnels 2 Limited; Radio Newcastle; and VODA - you all went the extra mile!

Thank you for your continued support, it is greatly appreciated."

Oi! FA - Tackling Clubs' Debts

OiFA_logoOi! FA are a small group of Fans from different clubs who are working with the FSF. They united in their dislike of the trend for clubs to be saddled with inflated debts. Oi! FA want the FA, or other bodies, if appropriate, to improve their financial oversight of clubs. This means going further than recent steps to look more carefully at the financial fitness of would-be Chairmen.

The primary aim of Oi! FA is to build up a large petition which they can then forward on to the FA and other relevant bodies to voice our concerns over the ownership rules of our beloved football clubs.

Changes to our footballing experience - NUST Member request for dissertation help

survey

I am currently partaking in a research project that hopefully is of interest to NUST members: I aim to explore the way in which we, the fans, view football and football management before looking at how and for who's benefit it has changed our footballing experience. If you would like to aid my research I would be grateful if you could take the time to fill out a short online survey or if you wish to express your views further you can contact me on to arrange an informal interview. If you email me at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it I will send you the survey link or make appropriate arrangements for an interview.

Newcastle help Germany to first ever victory over England

Bundesliga-LogoGermany's top division have recorded a higher attendance overall than England's top division for the first time in their history. Sporting Intelligence's Nick Harris lays the blame squarely at the door of Newcastle United. "This was the first season since 2005-06 that the Premier League dipped below 13m fans and it was mainly down to Newcastle United’s absence."

"The Bundesliga began in 1963-64 and never before in its 46 year history has Germany’s top division attracted more fans in total than England’s top division, until now. The year-on-year decline in the Premier League can partly be assumed to be down to the recession but probably more attributable to the absence in 2009-10 of Newcastle, whose massive crowds will probably take Premier League averages back up again next season, almost certainly towards the 13.5m levels seen in 2008-09."

At least somebody missed us!
