What an excellent result this was. This was exactly what we have been waiting for. This must be the standard to maintain as we need to create a situation where West Brom and Nottingham Forest accept that there is only the 2nd automatic promotion place left to fight for.
We tore at Cardiff right from the start and if truth be told we killed the visitors within 15 minutes. With only 3 minutes on the clock a Guthrie corner was kept alive by debutant Fitz Hall and his header was flicked on by Nolan and Carroll forced the ball home from close range. With the mood set Gutierrez found Carroll breaking into the left hand side of the penalty area, his shot fired off the base of the far post, cannoned of Gypes and rolled into the net to be 2-0 up after 6 minutes.
Cardiff were nearly back in the game when the very handy Ross McCormack crashed a shot off the Gallowgate crossbar. But the game was realistically ended on 15 minutes when a slick move down the right ended in Simpson slinging over a great cross for Andy Carroll to head home his 2nd. Indecision from Harper almost saw the Blue Birds get a fluke but his none attempt at a routine catch saw the ball clip the post. Marshall saved from Guthrie, but the first half as a competition was over and the whistle for half time couldn’t come quickly enough for Cardiff.
Chopra had a deflected shot tipped over the bar by Harper and Harper denied the striker again moments later when he got in behind our back four. Sub Peter Lovenkrands made it 4-0 with 20 minutes remaining when he got on the end of a cute Routledge pass to fire past Marshall from 8 yards. The Danish forward then made it 5 as he cut in from the right wing and curled a left footed shot in off the far post. With the game just about over Wildig scored a very late consolation goal, but this was our night.
