A splendid win in the sunshine and we now require only 4 points to secure the title. We also extend our unbeaten run at home and if we get through the home game to Ipswich, we shall have gone through the whole season unbeaten at SJP.
Tamas Kadar came in for Jose Enrique and the first ten minutes were rather ineffective, however the game burst into life when Jonas Gutierrez broke into the left hand side of the box and then saw his attempted pass turned home by Evatt. The mask was then unleashed and webs were sent into the East Stand.
The visitors missed a great chance to equalise when Campbell shot tamely straight at Harper. Southern prodded wide from a corner but we went further ahead on 35 minutes when Guthrie’s free kick was flicked in by the head of Carroll. Guthrie almost added a 3rd with a flashing header flying wide after a good cross from Ryan Taylor. Just before half time Lovenkrands burst into the box but dragged a left foot shot wide.
Ryan Taylor brought a fine save out of Gilks with a free kick and Carroll almost forced home from the corner, Lovenkrands hit the post with a header from a cross by Andy Carroll, Gilks then made a great save to deny a Gutierrez shot finding the net. He then repelled a stunning Lovenkrands header. We were treated to a play station goal when Gutierrez played in Nolan, who walked through the defence and ‘round the keeper to make it 3-0. Carroll came close to a fourth but his header was off target and Lovenkrands laced over the bar when clean in on goal. Wayne Routledge scored a fantastic fourth goal when he received an Ameobi pass, waltzed past 2 defenders and cracked a right foot shot into the far corner of the net. On 85 minutes Blackpool grabbed a consolation goal when Ormerod fired home after Harper had saved from Dobie and Harper made another good save just before the end but the game ended 4-1.
