While most of the attention on the recent UEFA's club licensing requirements focused on the 'financial fair play rules' which require clubs to eventually break even, Platini and co also commit Europe’s top clubs to appointing a Supporter Liaison Officer (SLO) to ensure dialogue between a club and its fans. As well as communicating fans’ opinions to a club’s board, SLOs will liaise with stewards, police and counterparts at opposing clubs.

There is a real need for clubs to work closely with fans for their mutual benefit, Newcastle United needs to be at the very heart of its community and this initiative could help the club move closer to that ideal.
