As Newcastle United prepare to return to the Premier League, a league table of shirt sponsors sees our club as one of only two to have reduced revenue. Some supporters may have a laugh that the other club is "our friends down the road" but that isn't really much of a comfort. We all know the potential pulling power of Newcastle United and to see the club so undersold is soul destroying.
The club's stature has clearly fallen in recent years but there is a reason why the likes of Sky and ESPN are so keen to feature Newcastle United more than all but a handful of clubs. The initial TV schedule sees Newcastle more 'popular' than Spurs and Aston Villa, while Fulham's two appearances stand poorly alongside our eight when seen in the context of their sponsorship deal dwarfing Newcastle's.
This isn't a case of our club is bigger than yours, more a statement that when it comes to business decisions made by the likes of Sky, Newcastle clearly remain bigger 'Box Office' than most others. Our football club should be capitalising on the brand that is Newcastle United and using it to help take our great club forward once again, failing to do so lets everybody down who cares about Newcastle.
