A group of seven Newcastle fans will be riding their bikes from Newcastle to Plymouth, to coincide with Newcastle's forthcoming match down there, in aid of 'Help for Heroes'. The ride will take 8 days and cover approximately 500 miles from April the 11th to April 18th 2010.
The route begins at St James Park travelling through Barnard Castle, Skipton, Macclesfield, Shrewsbury, Hereford, Bristol, Taunton and finally Plymouth Home Park. On route they will be staying in army barracks, one of the riders is an army medic.
The riders are Peter Harrison, Dave Johnston, Mark Rickaby, Michael Tobin, Wayne Tobin, Jimmy Wealeans and Sue Mcfarlane.
The mayor will see them off, along with the parents of sapper Watson, a soldier sadly killed over the xmas in Afghanistan, and they arrive in Plymouth the following Sunday, the day before the match. The Mayor of Plymouth is booked to meet them, along with Miss Plymouth and members of the press and Plymouth have allowed them onto the pitch at half-time.
Peter said "We are riding for help for heroes, and already have hundreds of pounds in pledges. As you know this is the farest away match in the UK, we were motivated to do it by the green army advert, but decided to take it to the next level by cycling it. None of us claim to be athletes, just regular season ticket holders with a bit motivation.
