Congratulations to Shay Given on reaching the milestone of 100 appearances for his Country when he leads the Republic of Ireland out tonight at Croke Park Dublin against Montenegro.
His international career began in 1996 when he made his debut against Russia and he has been a virtual ever present for the Republic since then.
Shay made the vast majority of his appearances while a Newcastle United Player, signing for us in 1997 therefore it is certain that most Newcastle supporters will be delighted that he has joined the ranks of only a few distinguished players who have represented their Country on so many occasions.
Shay was and remains a popular player and via his charitable work here in the North east through his support for MacMillan Cancer Support and his own Shay Given Foundation, he has put a lot into the region and continues to do so.
So tonight will be a great night for Shay and his family; a night to be remembered and hopefully we will be seeing Shay out in South Africa during 2010, should the Republic get through the World cup playoffs.
You can keep in touch with Shay via his official website www.shay-given.com
Once again, congratulations Shay.
