Update : After Saturdays match, Anthony commented "I thought I would just write to thank you for the match day tickets the NUST provided following my nomination for the Local Achievers Award. It was a great day out for all concerned, we had some good craic, great seats and best of all the Toon won 3-0! We would also like to thank you once again for your kind donation and the best of luck with your campaign."
Anthony Armstrong of Sheriff Hill, Gateshead is NUST's latest "Local Achiever". Anthony (back row, far right, below) deserves to be nominated for this accolade as he has, over the last 5 months has been responsible for Managing, coaching, mentoring and motivating St Peters Low Fell Football team that has endured limited success over the last couple of seasons. St Peters are currently top of the league and unbeaten this season.
Stephen Jones, who nominated Anthony said "I have been involved in grass roots football for 27 years, and I have been particularly impressed with the way Anthony has single handedly turned around this football club. Anthony introduced a training regime of three times a week initially I felt this would be to much for the team and that the players would not attend, I was wrong!! with Anythony's infectious and enthusiastic nature training sessions have been well attended and most of all they have been fun! which for some players is why we play this great game. So far this Season St Peters remain unbeaten, this is down to Anthony's well planned training session's and match day management. I have coached football in the UK the US and Europe and I have to say that Anthony's training sessions are top drawer!
Finally, I believe Anthony should receive this award as he has suffered with many career ending injuries which he just seems to keep bouncing back from, he has broken bones, torn hamstrings, groins too many times to mention but he still runs training sessions and still has that passion for the game."
Anthony is a life long Newcastle fan and will be attending the Newcastle United vs Swansea game on Saturday courtesy of NUST - a well deserved reward.
