Since Newcastle United Supporters Club (NUSC) was formed in September 2008 with a view to establishing an organised body to represent the interests of Newcastle United Supporters a small sub group has been exploring the possibility of converting the status of NUSC to that of a Supporters Trust.
Further meetings followed with representatives of Supporters Direct to put in place a plan to launch a Supporters Trust at Newcastle culminating at a meeting before a packed audience in Newcastle on 17th March 2009, attended by James Mathie and Rob Bradley from Supporters Direct and backed by the Evening Chronicle's John Gibson.
Since membership of NUSC grew considerable between October 2008 and the Trust meeting in March 2009 it was decided to obtain the views of members once again and a poll was conducted in April 2009 which resulted in an overwhelming majority of voters (99.8%) once again endorsing the decision to convert to Trust status.
After several meetings with representatives of Supporters Direct who attended a NUSC committee meeting in April and subsequently met with representatives of NUSC in May the Rules of the Supporters Trust have been agreed, signed off and are currently with Supporters Direct for approval and registration with the Financial Services Authority. It is anticipated conversion to Supporters Trust status will be formally completed by mid-July.
In the meantime NUSC will be continuing their roadshows during the summer explaining, amongst other things, about the Supporters Trust movement and what it mean to the Supporters of Newcastle United.
